Camden is becoming a safer city — and it’s no accident.
Crime rates have hit a 50-year low in the notoriously tough city, and although local law enforcement agencies say it’s not a home run yet, they are crediting creative, alternative outreach programs with reducing crime in Camden.
Starting in 2024, the Camden County Police Department’s community outreach team partnered with an internal social services unit. Together they dedicated themselves to reaching at-risk youths, residents suffering from substance use disorders and others suffering from mental health crises to connect them with available resources in order to increase the quality of life in the city, reduce petty crime and improve job opportunities.
