The department of Housing and Urban Development reports: On any given night, there are over 600,000 homeless in the U.S. 8,941 people experience homelessness in New Jersey Homelessness in NJ has decreased 12.4% since 2015 Sixty five year old Joseph became homeless in 1988 after a devastating fire destroyed his home and belongings of 25 years. With no family to turn to for help, he moved around finding shelter in the woods and abandoned buildings. For the past 10 years he called a small space under a bridge in Mercer County his home. The opioid epidemic has devastated thousands of families across our nation, state and local communities. Today people across the country and around the world come together to raise awareness for Overdose Awareness Day. For many this is a day of grieving those we have lost, but also a day of hope, a call for further action to end the overdose crisis and a chance to share resources to help those suffering. At the national level, drug overdoses killed more Americans than the entire Vietnam War in 2016. In Burlington County alone, overdoses from heroin and other opiates rose 46 percent from 2011-2016. What Does Human Rights Mean to You?

Human rights are rights to which all human beings are entitled just because they are human, regardless of the society, culture or the times in which they live. In celebration of Human Rights month this December, the Oaks Ethics and Human Rights Committee invited staff and consumers from all programs and departments to showcase what Human Rights means to them by contributing to the Oaks virtual art gallery. Basic human rights give us the freedom to express our identity. Over 70 submissions were received from across the agency in a variety of forms including collages, paintings, papier-mâché and more. Oaks Integrated Care Announces Opioid Overdose Recovery Program in Burlington County

Mount Holly, NJ- The opioid epidemic has devastated thousands of families across our nation, state and local communities. To help combat this crisis, the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services awarded Oaks Integrated Care the Opioid Overdose Recovery Program (OORP) in Burlington County. Oaks Integrated Care Receives Accreditation

Mount Holly, NJ- Oaks Integrated Care announced that another set of its programs were recently accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International. CARF International is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services. “This accreditation represents a major step forward in Oaks’ goals to fulfill its mission by providing the highest level of quality health care and social services to help individuals and families achieve emotional, mental and physical wellness,” said Oaks Chief Executive Officer Derry Holland. In the true spirit of #BetterTogether, we’re happy to announce our partnership with Friends of Burlington County Animal Shelter by temporarily distributing pet food donations (dry and canned) at our Mount Holly Food Pantry. The donations are normally distributed at the animal shelter which is currently closed due to COVID-19. If you or a loved one is in need of people food, dog food or cat food, we are here to help! Food shouldn’t have to be a choice! The Oaks Food Pantries in Mount Holly and Berlin offer emergency food assistance to community members in need of support.
